Biography - Mr. Floyd Larkin
“Working in an industry in which I have chances to help save lives is truly rewarding,” says Floyd Larkin, owner of Stop Heart Attack. “I love hearing that one of our units has saved a life. Knowing that I played even the smallest part in a victim of sudden cardiac arrest receiving a second chance at life is exciting.”
Larkin, a native of Demopolis, Alabama, became the State of Alabama’s first defibrillator salesman in 1976, when he worked for Physio Control (now Medtronic Emergency Response Systems). He became an area manager, overseeing marketing and distribution for pre-hospital emergency medical services and in-hospital response teams until 1999 when he began Stop Heart Attack, a defibrillation business based in Birmingham, Alabama.
Larkin helped found the Lord Wedgwood Charity, which raises funds and donates defibrillators to schools, and serves as a non-voting member of the charity’s board. As an avid hunter, golfer and football fan, Larkin recognizes the great need for public access to life-saving defibrillators and has pioneered public access defibrillation (PAD) programs in Birmingham, Columbus, Georgia.
Larkin is a graduate of Marion Military Institute and has a marketing degree from the University of Alabama.
